Highstreet Hits & Misses: Cream Eyeshadows

It always used to be that cream eyeshadows on the highstreet were not worth going near. They were metallic, greasy, creased like crazy and never really came in great colours - usually sheer metallic pastel blues in the 90's! But these days the quality is on the average a lot better, with some definite stand out ones with brilliant formulas! Today I thought it would be fun to talk you through some of the ones that I love and some others that I'm not so fond of, I hope you enjoy and find something for you!

Bourjois Color Edition 24H Eyeshadow - Kaki Cheri (Hit)
(£6.99, Boots & Superdrug)
One of the newer releases into the cream eyeshadow scene. These aren't intense in pigmentation, but they apply beautifully, evenly and stay put really well. You can see my full review of another one of these shades (Prune Nocturne) here - link

ELF Long-lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow - Toast (Hit)
(£3.95, ELF's Website)
I never hear people talk about these much, but I love them. I'll admit they're not the longest lasting, but they're not one of the ones that crease pretty much instantly. The pigmentation is strong, with a beautiful shimmer and glitter running through it, definitely something for party time! You can read my full review here - link.

Catrice Made to Stay Long Lasting Eyeshadow - Mauvie Star (Hit)
(Not available in the UK)
I was extremely lucky to receive this from a gorgeous and generous subscriber (thank you!), but it's a beautiful product too. It's pigmented, long-lasting and also a stunning purple toned gunmetal shade, I can't get enough! I just wish they were available in the UK! You can read my full review here - link.

Maybelline 24H Color Tattoo - Metallic Pomegranate (Hit)
(£4.99, Boots & Superdrug)
When people think of good cream eyeshadows on the highstreet, they always think of these! I was actually rather late to the party, only trying them last year. But since then I have acquired quite a few! They last on me until I take them off and have an awesome colour range - with good pigmentation too. You can see my review of 'Light in Purple' here - link

BarryM Eyeshadow Pencil - Bronze (Hit)
(£4.59, Boots & Superdrug)
Another one that I never hear anyone talk about! And it's possibly one of my all time favourite, it's pigmented, creamy, smudgeproof, creaseproof and waterproof, you couldn't really ask for more! I'm not overly fond of the colour though, I'm not quite sure why I went for this one! You can see my full review here - link.

Collection Metallic Cream Eyeshadow - Platinum Bling (Hit)
(£2.99, Boots & Superdrug)
As I'm sat down writing this post, I've realised I've made a grave mistake. There is another Collection cream eyeshadow that I love and should have included - the eyeshadow pencil, so be on the look out more that too! Back to the metallic one though! It's actually more of a liquid product, super pigmented, dries down and lasts all day!

L-R: BarryM, Bourjois, Catrice, Collection, ELF, Maybelline

ELF Liquid Eyeshadow - Mocha Madness (Miss)
(Discontinued)
It's not often I say this, but I'm rather happy that this has been discontinued as there was barely anything good I could say about it. The pigmentation was good to be fair and the colour stunning, but it just cracked a flaked off my eyelids - not a look I go for!

MUA ColourBurst Eyeshadow Tint - A Girl Like Me (Miss)
Generally I really like MUA, but this I can't! It's not very pigmented and creases on me, both of which are no-no's for me! There are also no fun bright shades available, which although not relevant to the quality, is disappointing. You can read my full review here - link.

ELF Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick - Little Miss Thing (Miss)
(£2.95, ELF's Website)
It seems to be all of the eyeshadow sticks that I don't like and the ones in the pots that I do, I'm sensing a theme! I dislike this one for pretty much the same reason as the MUA one above (infact I featured them both in my 'Products I Regret Buying' post recently). I also find that this one is a little hard in texture, meaning you have to apply pressure to the eye. You can read my full review here - link.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - Black Bean (Miss)
A lot of people will probably not be impressed with me including this as a 'miss'. And to be fair, I did like these at first as they make amazing bases for eyeshadows in terms of boosting colour, but I'm just finding that they crease on me, which is rather unfortunate. I love the colour range though and that they included some matte shades!

Stargazer Metallic Eyeshadow Pen - Pink* (Miss)
(£1.99*, Amazon)
This is another one that pains me slightly to include as the colour is amazing (as with all Stargazer products!) even the pigmentation is amazing! It's also really great to see such an unusual shade for the eyes. It just creases on me though unfortunately :( Check out their other products though, they do some amazing bright colours! L-R: ELF Jumbo Stick, MUA, NYX, Stargazer

Phew! Well done if you managed to stay with me through that post! I'd love to hear your opinion on cream eyeshadows and which ones you love and the ones you love to hate! Also let me know if you'd like me to do this for other highstreet products, anything in particular you'd like to see?

  4. I'd agree on all of those (that I've tried anyway) apart from the MUA ones - I agree that they crease but with a primer they last much better. I know that a lot of cream shadows, the point is that you don't need a primer but I find I need a primer with the bourjois ones, too, and I love them Just the same :D
