I've not been the best at keeping on top of reviews and posts recently. Aside from working super crazy hours, I'm also in the process of making my wedding invitations. I can't decide whether I'd recommend it or not, on the one side, making my own is saving a lot of money, however I truly underestimated how long it would take - at least 30 minutes per invite! But it'll be worth it... I know I promised you few wedding related posts, so if you wanted to see a DIY Invitations post do let me know! But anyway back to the product in hand, the MUA Smokin Palette, a brand new release from the brand, that I have fallen head over heels for!
As always I've included a summary at the end :)
As I've already said, this is a brand new release, which currently only seems to be available on MUA's Website, but I'm sure it'll be in Superdrug before too long! Inside are 10 eyeshadow shades geared towards creating beautiful smoky eyes as well as a black eyeliner to complete the look. Unlike a lot of the other MUA Palettes the colours actually have shade names, which I very much like! In total there is 17g of product, which is very impressive from such a cheap brand! All of this will set you back a mere £6 - not bad!
The Eyeshadow Formula
In this palette is a mix of matte and shimmer shades, which did originally ring alarm bells in my head. But I don't know whether they have changed the matte formula or not, but in this palette they are a lot better, less powdery and more pigmentation! I wouldn't say they are perfect, but I'm definitely happy with them! The shimmer shades are also really great (as usual!), pigmented and apply nicely. So as a round up, the shadows in this palette are well pigmented, not too powdery (although a little), blend nicely and have minor creasing at the 8 hour point - but the colours still there!
Eyeshadow Colours - Top Row
Glory - Creamy matte shade - not too warm toned so great for the browbone. I love having a shade like this in palettes!
Boudoir - A muted cream peach shade, again matte and creamy!
Ghost - I am in love with this shade! It's best described as a shimmery taupe that leans more towards the grey and cool toned side. LOVE!
Fantasy - A matte taupe. This one is much more brown toned than Ghost and also deeper.
Mythical - A matte black, not the best of all time, but pretty darn pigmented!
Broken - A shimmery bronzed copper shade with a warm tone to it. Probably the only shade in the palette I don't like!
Eyeshadow Colours - Bottom Row
Icon - A shimmery warm toned plum shade with strong pink red tones to it.
Unleash - This is a bright sapphire blue which has a gorgeous shimmer to it! I'm wearing this in my upcoming (tonight) MakeUp Collection video :)
Chaos - This is a deep black toned green shade, again shimmery and gorgeous!
Wicked - It wouldn't be a smoky eyes palette without the gunmetal shade. This one is intense in pigmentation and metallic!
Smokin Eye Pencil - Black Smoke
I hate how this is packaged. It comes glued into a well in the palette, which is all well and good if this had a lid! But it doesn't, meaning that it's very easy to stab the soft pencil tip into the side of the palette trying to get it out. Not having a lid also means that you HAVE to keep it in the palette, which is a pain and also the lack of a lid means this is likely to dry out after a while. Mine may go in the bin... Anyway! This is a nice pigmented black shade and also creamy, I don't find it sets down that well though, so does smudge through the day.
The Good - Beautiful shades, pigmented, blend well, good range of colours, 17g of product.
The Not so Good - The pencil included has no lid and smudges (although it is pigmented), eyeshadow has some slight creasing at 8 hours.
Would I Repurchase? Oh yes!
Price & Availability - £6, MUA's Website
So overall a very good palette! MUA have always been a brand that I've liked, but recently they really seem to be upping their game. Which I am really liking! Anyway I really hope you enjoyed the review, will you be picking one up?
