Review + Swatches: MUA Matte Lipsticks (All shades!)

You may remember when I first got these I said that my first impressions weren't good and that I didn't think I was going to like them. But this post is going to be a great example of why you shouldn't write reviews based on first impressions! It's not to say that I now love these, but there are definitely good aspects to them and I've grown a love/hate relationship with them over the last few weeks of testing!

As always I've included a summary at the end :)

L-R - Wild Berry, Scarlet Siren, Pouty Pink, Peachy Keen, Totally Nude.

The Basics
I'm a big fan of the regular £1 lipsticks from MUA - they're fantastic value! So when they released a line of matte lipsticks, again priced at just £1 each, I jumped on it! As the price was so good I couldn't help but to pick up all 5 shades available and surprisingly I actually really like all of them on! They come in the same packaging as the regular £1 lipsticks, except for in white. I'm not the biggest fan of the colour, but it does make them stand out from the others! Each one contains 3.8g of product and is available from MUA's Website - currently with free shipping using the code 'MUA19' at the checkout.

L-R - Wild Berry, Scarlet Siren, Pouty Pink, Peachy Keen, Totally Nude.

The Formula
This is where we have our love/hate relationship! When applied these do have a waxy texture to them that can definitely be felt on the lips. At first I really didn't like the feel of it, however I have grown used to it - but I still can't claim to actually like it. What I do like about the thick waxy texture is that it means the product lasts a long time on the lips. I happily get 5 hours wear from these little babies - although with a big meal these won't fair so well! Pigmentation wise they are slightly variable, but with all the shades, I do feel like I have to apply some pressure and apply a few coats to get the intensity that I want! And for the finish, well they're not truely matte really, but nowhere near as glossy as the other MUA offerings!

Totally Nude - Finally a nude that doesn't wash me out! This is still definitely a nude lipstick though, with slight peach undertones to it.

Peachy Keen - I'd say this is more coral than peach as it does have some pink tones to it - they're not strong though. However this is what makes the lipstick wearable for me - that and it not being opaque!

Pouty Pink - This one does lack some pigmentation, but is what I can only describe as a barbie pink!

Scarlet Siren - Probably the most pigmented of the bunch, this is a pretty true red and a bright one at that!

Wild Berry - Again this one isn't the most pigmented, it actually looks kinda like a stain on the lips, like you've been eating lots of berries! But I really do like it and think it's a great purple toned berry shade for this time of year!

The Good - Long lasting, every single colour I like which is rare, cheap, value, vanilla scented, don't really accentuate dry lips.

The Not so Good - Waxy texture, not the most pigmented (but buildable).

Would I Repurchase? Potentially yes, will be interested to see if any other colours will be released!

Price & Availability - £1, MUA's Website - I haven't checked to see if they've arrived in Superdrug yet.

I'd be lying if I said these were amazing, but I do really like the colours and that they lasted a long time on me. So for £1 I think MUA have done pretty darn well. I'd be interested to see if any other colours are released though! Hope you all enjoyed the review and I'll speak to you again soon, Hannah
