Some products have a lot of hype that surrounds them. But the thing is sometimes we get caught up in this hype a little and then decide the products aren't quite for us. So I've decided that from now on it's probably better to focus more on whether these hyped products are worth the hype (in my eyes) as there's already a tonne of reviews floating around! But rest assured I'll still be giving you swatches and my thoughts!
As always I've included a summary at the end :)
The Basics
The OCC Lip Tars are a rather unique product - but if you've ever tried the Sleek Pout Paints then they're very similar in idea to those. If you're not familair with the Sleek product then the best way to describe a lip tar is a seriously pigmented liquid lipstick - you only need a teeny tiny amount. You cannot use these direct from the tube (not a wise idea to try!), but they come with a lipbrush :). Inside you get 10ml of product, enough to last a lifetime, with the product available in a huge range of colour, each costing £9.95 from Cute Cosmetics - link.
What did I think?
I was actually pretty happy with this super pigmented, mint smelling treat. When first applied it will be transferable and glossy. This sets down after an hour or so and becomes more matte, at this point I do find that my lips start to feel a little dry. But although it doesn't feel too great at the time, once the product has been taken off there's not much damage done. As for total wear time, I get around 4 hours, bu there is some staining. The colour is a rather bright pinked coral.

Worth the Hype?
I do think these are fab in terms of pigmentation. But also in terms of colour choice as well, they do pretty much any colour you could imagine - and if they don't then you can mix it yourself from colours they do have. They are also really pretty for the first couple of hours after applied, but after that the wear is less than perfect for me. I think that it truely is a really good product though, but on me the Sleek Pout Paints seem to wear a bit better.
The Good - Vegan, pigmented, tube will last you forever, loads of colour choices, last ~4 hours.
The Not so Good - Dried my lips out, can become a little flaky after a few hours if you apply too much.
Would I repurchase? Yes, I NEED Black Dahlia in my life, it looks like the perfect berry shade!
Price & Availability - £9.95, Cute Cosmetics
I really hope this twist on a review was helpful, as well as showing you the gorgeousness that is Trollop - what a name! Anyway I hope you enjoyed the post and have a great evening, Hannah

DeleteI've had lip tar on my ebay watch list for what feels like forever, and I never get around to just taking the plunge. The one I am watching is a bright purple colour - it's fabulous but god knows where I would wear it. I may need to rethink my colour choice.
ReplyDeletePicked your blog up from the #bbloggers chat :).

Oh fab, thanks for the follow :) I'm sure purple would be gorgeous too :)
DeleteLovely colour! I don't think I would give these much use though, most times I can't be bothered to use a lip brush haha
ReplyDeleteFair enough, they're not for everyone :)
DeleteI love lip tars! I have black dahlia and it is pretty awesome... see my review of black dahlia here:

Thanks for the link - it's gorgeous :)
DeleteReally helpful review, was thinking of getting this but it looks a little too similar to Sleeks Pout Paint in Minx to me, plus I have super dry lips anyway so anything drying is a no-go for me!
ReplyDeleteGlad it helped Amy :)
DeleteLove this color :D I like long wearing lip products but I wonder if it will dry out my lips? :) I should give this a try one of these days but I really want to try the sleek pout paints :D
