Worth the Hype? ELF HD Powder (Sheer)

And it's time again to review a hyped about product for you and tell you whether I think any of that hype is actually deserved, because let's face it, half the time it really isn't! I have quite a few products lined up for this feature now, with some strong opinions forming on some of them (Ahem. Apocalips!), but we'll save that one for another day! It's time to put the HD Powder to the test!

As always I've included a summary at the end :)

The Basics
Lets start off with how ridiculously huge and bulky this packaging is - it is the size of my fist! Inside you get 8g of product which is quite a lot when we're talking loose powder. But if your packaging is anything like mine, you're going to lose a little of it! I have the sheer version of this (which is a little white), but they also have a corrective yellow version, which I've reviewed here - link. And a shimmery version which just scares me! Each is available from ELF's Website for £6

What did I think?
After having this sat waiting to be used for literally weeks and then using it, I wondered what took me so long. As on first use I was in love! This stuff made a real difference to the look of my skin, smoothing over any pores and making my skins surface look smooth and even. You do need to be careful how much you apply though as it's pretty easy to over do it - you only need a small amount, so better applied with a powder brush than the puff provided. One negative is that although my skin looks great I found it only had a minimal effect on keeping oil at bay, which luckily I don't suffer too much with.

Face close-up!

Worth the hype?
I think so, yes! I have worn this everyday that I've been photographing/filming since my first try and quite often on regular days as well. It's just one of those products where you can instantly see a difference. I'd say, if you're on the fence about it, go for it! Plus if you order tonight, ELK UK are doing buy one get one free on studio items (which this is)!

The Good - Cheap, value, covers over pores giving a more even skin texture, lots of product.

The Not so Good - Not the best powder for oil control, bulky packaging (and mine leaks a little).

Would I repurchase? 100% yes.

Price & Availability - £6, ELF's Website

So another winner on the 'Worth the Hype' series I recently started! Let me know if there's anything (highstreet mainly!) that you'd like to see featured here and I'll see what I can do! Thanks for reading my lovelies and have a fab week!

  4. So glad you've reviewed this! This must be the ONLY Elf product I haven't yet bought and I've been on the fence for ages, but having seen how flawless your skin looks I'm definitely buying it now! Plus it's an excuse to get the buy one get one free offer ;P

  5. Wow your eye make up looks gorgeous! Totally unrelated haha!!

I've never tried this, but the size of the packaging puts me off as I like my makeup to be compact.. Although for the price it is, and that elf always have amazing deals on.. It's worth a try :))) xx

  8. Sounds like a great product for the price, too bad it doesn't do wonders to oily skin!

    1. I've actually been trying it layered with a better powder for oil control and it seems to make it a bit better which is always a bonus!

  9. I love this powder so, so much. It literally transforms the skin! I just hate the packaging, I find it such a messy product to use!

  10. I've got this too and must say it does make a difference in smoothing the skin. Unfortunately, it takes a hang to get used to at first -- must admit I stepped out the house with a layer too much and looked horrible haha :p
