Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you had a really good evening last night and aren't feeling too worse for wear today! I had a nice quiet evening at a friends house for dinner and board games. I am getting old before my time aren't I! Anyway I'm not really a person for New Years Resolutions, I tend to get off track and mislead into old ways, but setting myself challenges is a whole much better idea, last year I tried to be less lazy, adopting the phrase 'Laziness never got anyone anywhere' and it really worked! This years challenges are...
The No Buy!
A lot of beauty bloggers are going on a 100 day no buy. I'm going to be honest with myself and admit maybe that's not for me! But a January make-up no buy is definitely going to happen! However I will be keeping to the 100 day no buy for other beauty products like body lotion, shower gel etc, you get the idea! I have a ridiculous amount of body products, I could probably wash and moisturize a whole army! But this year is going to be the year of using it up, so expect to see lots of empties posts!
For anyone else doing a No Buy there will be a Twitter chat every Thursday at 8pm (Starting 10th Jan), using the hashtag, #spendingban to try and keep us all motivated!
Achieve Anything in Just One Year by Jason Harvey
For Christmas I was super lucky to receive a Kindle and spent quite a while pondering over all the free books that you can pick up. Not that I have a whole lot of time to read! But I stumbled across this book, which I guess you could generalize as a self help book. But the idea is pretty simple, you have a page or so to read each day which gets you to think about certain things and gives you daily challenges. I'm quite looking forward to it!

Hopefully I can keep on track this year and just be happy, positive - and well moisturized. I'd love to hear about any challenges or resolutions you're giving yourself and I'll speak to you again soon, Hannah

There is no way I could do a spending ban. I would try but I know I would fail. I have no self control when it comes to makeup. I am like you tho, lotions, body products, etc. Yes, I could do without for a month. LOL!

I don't think it's gonna be easy, but I'll give it my best shot! Have a good year!
DeleteI will be on a spending ban this Jan! I'm banning myself from all things unessential, makeup, clothes and magazines! It's gonna be hard! But hopefully it will give me a chance to use up what I've got! Looking forward to the twitter (support group) chat!
ReplyDeleteGood luck Gem :) And I look forward to talking to you in the Twitter chats!
DeleteI like the idea of the spending ban... but spring 2013 makeup lines are coming up shortly... and i know i'd fall of the wagon... so i'm just going to try and be smart with my purchases... but I can't go cold turkey... so weak :)
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm just doing January for make-up ;)
DeleteThanks for the heads' up about the #spendingban chats - I'd already planned to stop buying stuff for the next three months unless I have to replace essentials (shower gel, hair products, etc.) so it's nice to know that there are others who will be doing the same! :)

Absolutely, I look forward to the chat!
DeleteGood luck with the spending ban - I can imagine it will be a challenge! I much prefer Project Pans as they don't last as long!

ReplyDeleteJust posted about it actually.

Oh wow! That's a long time, good luck!
DeleteGood luck! There's just no way I could do a 100 day make up ban, but with the amount of smellies I got for Xmas, I could probably do a 100 day toiletries ban and not even notice (but I don't think that's in the spirit of it, really!) xx
ReplyDeleteI think I took the easier option, but 100 days is till 13th April and I'm not sure that's a realistic amount of time for me to not buy make-up!
DeleteI don't think a no buy for 100 days would work for me since I have to replace a few makeup things but for body stuff, totally doable. It will definitely end on April 13th since that's my birthday! :D
ReplyDeleteOh fab, thanks for letting me know! And a very early happy birthday :)
DeleteAh, I love your blog! I don't know why I wasn't following any sooner, but now I am! Good luck with the January makeup ban ;) xx
