Review + Swatches: Barry M Ultra Moisturizing Lip Paint - Shade 162

Barry M are generally a brand known for their Dazzle Dusts and Nail Paints, but also somewhat for their original Lip Paints. The original Lip Paints, which are loved for the huge range in colour offered, have always had comments about how they are drying on the lips. But Barry M listened (Don't you love it when brands do that!) and came out with a brand new lipstick formula aimed at being lovely and moisturizing on the lips. I couldn't just sit by and watch it release so decided to pick up this beautiful red shade.

As always I've included a summary at the end :)

The Basics

So I've already given a lot of way in the beginning telling you that it's similar to the regular Barry M Lip Paints, but much more moisturizing for the lips. It does this with Cocoa Butter, but actually manages to smell rather fruity! The range is on the smaller side at the moment, but as I love them so much (gave that away didn't I!) I'm hoping they'll bring out some more beautiful shades for us to enjoy!

The Formula

So as we've already discussed this has the addition of Cocoa Butter, which is in there to keep our lips baby soft. And that it does, I've had no problems with dry lips using this product! The texture is also beautifully smooth, applying like a dream. On it's own it tends to last around 3 hours on the lips, but over a lip liner (I've been using the MUA Brooding Plum one) it tends to last pretty much all day - actually the pictures on the lips are over that lip liner. One thing worth noting though is that it can tend to sweat when left in a warm place - eg your pocket!

Colour & Pigmentation

I haven't had the opportunity to swatch the whole line (that would be amazing!) yet, but this particular shade at least has a beautiful glossy finish to it - although this does reduce the wear time! The pigmentation is also pretty intense with these, the swatch you see above is with just one swipe from the bullet! As for colour, it is of course beautiful shade, so much so that it's actually the product I'm wearing in my blogger profile picture in the bar on the right! But essentially it's a slightly deeper pretty neutral toned red.

This shows a touch pinker with the lip liner underneath, the swatch is true to colour!

The Good - pigmented, not drying, cheap, stunning colour, cute packaging, Barry M listened to their customers!

The Not so Good - could be longer lasting on the lips.

Would I repurchase? Definitely, I'm loving the formula and the colour!

  2. I love Barry M! The Lip Paint shades I have aren't too drying for me, but I'll definitely try one of those too, this colour looks amazing. :)

    1. I've never had big problems with the original either, I'm definitely loving the more moisturizing version though!

  3. Wow, it sounds like Barry M have made some impressive adjustments. I love the Lip Paints so it'll be nice to try a more moisturising formula.

Matte textures tend to be longer wearing so the cocoa butter etc. will reduce wearing time unfortunately.

I'm interested to try this out for myself and also to look at the other colours in the range though you have chosen a gorgeous and very flattering shade here. x

    1. Thanks for the comment Vicky, you're spot on! I can't wait to go have a look at the rest of the range either!
