Review + Swatches: Venomous Cosmetics - I Want Candy Lip Poisons, Purple Set

As far as Indie brands go I've only tried a handful of companies. But the one I've ordered from the most is Venomous Cosmetics, half because the prices are so reasonable and secondly because they do amazing bright and interesting colours! A couple of months ago they released a new lip poison collection with sets of Purple, Neutrals/Browns and Pinks/Red. I picked up the purple set and the pinks one too (swatches soon!) and was lucky enough to be given a sample of another shade - White Gold which I've thrown in here too!

As always I've included a summary at the end :)

The Basics
The purples set comes with three lip poisons - Lollipop Land, Taffy Dream and Pop Rocks Rock which as a set of mini's will cost you $10. The question on a few of your tongues is probably, what is a lip poison? Pretty much a lipgloss, but not a really sheer one! I can't see an info on how much product you get in the mini's, but I can see them lasting reasonably well!

The Formula
I'm not much good with knowing the uses of ingredients, but this has almond and jojoba oil in which is moisturizing as well as some Vitamin E for the same purpose. As for consistency it is quite thick and not particularly sticky so lasts on the lips for a good 3 hours. However I hate, hate the packaging. As you can see from the pictures there isn't one of the stoppers at the top to reduce the amount of product that comes out leaving a bit of a sticky mess. It is worth mentioning I had no issues with the fullsize packaging though.

The Colours
White Gold - This is a clear gloss with yellow gold shimmer in it. On it's own it's nothing particularly special. But over nude or red lipsticks this is a grand product!

Lollipop Land - A non-shimmery milky pink lavender shade.

Taffy Dream - Again this one has no shimmer and is a couple of shades deeper than Lollipop Dream, but slightly more blue toned.

Pop Rocks Rock - This one doesn't apply the most evenly, but over a lipstick I'm sure you'd get better results! The colour is a very blue toned medium purple with fuchsia shimmer running through it.

The Good - cheap, unusual colours, minis's available, generally have a good coverage.

The Not so Good - The packaging is awful (sorry) and the scent isn't my favourite, kinda like unscented lipgloss with tones of mint.

Would I repurchase?  I wouldn't purchase mini's unless the packaging changed. But I wouldn't say no to a pretty fullsize colour!

Price & Availability - Purple Set (3 colours) is $10 from Venomous Cosmetics (link)

I couldn't resist picking up the purple set, it's not often you can get purple lipgloss and especially that cheap. I think at the time I ordered I was loving my deep deep purple toned berries (yes in the middle of the summer!) Anyway I hope you enjoyed todays post and I'll speak to you again soon, Hannah

  2. Personally I'm not a massive fan of the shades except for white gold. But it is nice to see some different colour options out there (mainly talking about Pop Rocks Rock, haha) not everyone likes traditional pinks and reds! x
