It's been about three years now since I first discovered ELF and believe it or not it took me until now to try one of these Lip Stains. I've had my eye on them for a while now, but you know how it can be with ELF, a little overwhelming with all the products! But I've finally got myself one and wanted to review it for you all! Share the love so to speak!
As always I've included a summary at the end :)
The Basics
This is a little different from the standard lip stains and instead of setting into the lips, it sits on top of them. This particular one is double ended having a stain on one end and a clear gloss on the other. This is a pretty nice idea as it actually makes this a 3in1 product! Each end has 6ml of product, which again is a nice amount. And both have doe-foot applicators. As for how many different shades available, there's a pretty decent range, with 8 different colours. Each one costing a cheerful £3.75 - price increase alert!
The Formula
The Stain - On first application this stain is quite wet and thin in consistency, but after around 5 minutes it dries down to be completely matte on the lips. I do find then that being so matte, it does make the lips look and feel rather dry. And I've also had some subscribers comment saying it cracked on their lips. This has a slightly make-upy scent that goes once applied.
The Gloss - The gloss is also nice and thin and non-sticky - my favourite variety! The doe-foot applicator on it doesn't give off a lot of product though so I do find myself having to dip back into the gloss a few times to get my lips covered. This side is unscented.
Longevity
The Stain Alone - On me I find that I get around 5 hours wear from the stain on it's own with normal eating and drinking, which for me is really good! After this point I do find it to start getting flaky.
Layered - As your probably expected, wearing the gloss over the top does reduce the wear time. As it makes the product a lot more transferable. For me I get around 2 and a half hours wear from it - so the stain will also be gone then as the gloss stops it staying set.
The Colour
I personally find this colour to be in the nudes family. And having some warm browny pink tones to it, without being too pale - infact a great colour for my pale skintone. Probably don't need to say this, but just incase, this is a matte stain, with no shimmer or glitter. And the gloss completely clear.
The Good - the stain lasts 5 hours on it's own, doesn't smell horrible, drink/eat proof, non-transferable (stain), 3in1, cheap, value.
The Not so Good - the stain is rather drying, the stain flakes at ~5 hours, gloss only lasts 2 and a half hours.
Would I repurchase? Absolutely, I think these are a really great product - there's a good chance you'll see it in my July Loves! I'm eyeing First Date!
Who might like it? Those that want a stain, but don't like the regular felt tip style ones. Also a very practical product to throw in your bag!
Price & Availability - £3.75, ELF's Website.
Another product from ELF that I'm really liking - it just makes me want to do another order and try more things, is that bad? But I do hate their recent price increases and the lack of new products coming from the American site over to the UK one! But anyway I don't need to moan! Thank you all for stopping by, I'd love it if you subscribed and I'll speak to you later, H :)
