So in the end I decided it would be easier to review these individually so I could show you all the pictures without making a humongous and picture overloaded post. The first one I'm reviewing is one a subscriber on Youtube asked to see, but also one I wasn't convinced I'd be able to pull off, but actually I'm quite liking it! Anyway these are available from MakeUp Academy's Website for the introductory price of £3, normally £4.
As always I've included a summary at the end :)
The Basics
These lip duos come with a lipstick and lipgloss in complementary colours. They can be worn in four ways, each side on it's own, layered or with just a small amount of gloss highlighting the lipstick. My favourite ways to wear them are layered or the lipstick alone though! In total there are 8 different colours available, in shades to suite everyone - reviews of the rest are coming! As for how much product you get, you get 2.5g lipstick and 3.5ml of lipstick. You can also pull the end of the lipstick end which gives some more lipstick!
The Lipstick
This lipstick as you can see is a very deep vampy purple toned berry. It is pigmented and applies nicely, a couple of coats would give a very opaque coverage. The feeling isn't quite as good as the standard MUA Lipsticks, but I still wouldn't say it's horrible, just a little bit more waxy. As for longevity, that's where I wasn't so impressed, after an hour it has started settling into the lines of the lips, with it being so apparent at two hours that your going to want to remove and reapply. The gloss helps stop this somewhat though - oh and I haven't have any staining!
The Lipgloss
I'm not into wearing this gloss alone as it is super super glittery - even my OH commented on it! But it does work nicely over the lipstick, which is what it is intended for so I'm not going to moan! So like I said it has a lot of glitter in it, which is chunky and silver, so you can feel it on the lips, but apart from that the gloss is sheer and isn't sticky, which is awesome! And I find it to last about 2-3 hours and wear nicely. There will be some glitter leftover though, so great for glitterholics!
| Lipstick, Layered, Gloss |
The Good - cheap, pigmented, non-sticky gloss, nice packaging, smells nice (vanilla), look awesome layered
The Not so Good - the glitter in the gloss is a bit chunky and you can feel it on the lips, lipstick likes to settle in lip creases.
Would I repurchase? I have them all already so have no need to, but I'd purchase this shade again for lipstick, but not the gloss.
Who might like it? Glitter lovers!! But the lipstick is a great vampy shade if that's your thing and for the price it doesn't really matter if you don't use the gloss!
The Bottom Line - I'm not 100% convinced on the gloss as it's a glitter bomb, but love the lipstick it's ace.
So overall the gloss is an acquired taste, but the lipsticks brilliant. I will wear the gloss though, but when I want a fun look! Don't let it put you off, just be aware of it! But if you have any questions or wanted to request a particular shade to see next then let me know. Thanks for stopping by though, I really appreciate you all <3 H :)
