BeautyUK Eyeshadow and Eyeliner Review and Swatches

BeautyUK isn't really a brand I've delved into much in the past as I've always thought of them as a cheap teen brand (sorry!) but I'd heard a couple of good reviews about their new liquid eyeliners and wanted to pick one up to try (I got eclipse - review to follow). Whilst i was there I couldn't help but have a bit of a nose around the stand and noticed they had some new palettes which included a gel eyeliner duo! It's not often you find a drugstore gel liner, but I have noticed quite a few brands popping up recently, Maybelline and Accessorize to name a few.

But I'm far away from the point now! I picked this up for I think it was £3.99 for 6 eyeshadows and 2 gel liners, I chose the more subtle colours as I new I'd use it more, there is a brightly coloured one that has a blue and a black gel liner instead of black and brown that this has.

As usual there is a summary at the bottom.

For those of you who don't like Talc in your make-up these are probably one to miss as it tops the ingredients, as you can also see this is palette number 2.

These are the 6 coloured eyeshadows included, each one contains 1g of product and is slightly smaller than a 1p penny, sorry it's a UK comparisson, I don't really know about the sizes of foreign coins. Quality wise I think that they shadows are very soft, but possibly a bit to much makeing them slightly powdery, this creates some fall out, but I've definitely seen worse. They are also all shimmery (not glittery) and well pigmented. The pearl white shade probably has the worst pigmentation, but this makes it work really well as a highlighter. The colour selection is well thought out, there is everything needed to create a variety of looks.

And this is what made me buy the palette... I'm gonna mention here that BeautyUK doesn't tend to have testers out so it's a bit of a blind buy. But being so cheap I usually will give in if something really catches my eye (I already have a couple of their palettes). Anyway onto the eyeliners...

As you can see the black is a bit sheer, but it can be built up a bit more than shown here, it does show on the eye though. The brown is better pigmented and works well on the eyes too. I prefer to use these on my upper lashline only mainly because they aren't waterproof. These gel liners also make good and cheap eyeshadow bases, although I suggest that you use a good primer underneath. They do fade through the day and so probably wouldn't be suited to those who don't like to touch up during the day.

The palette comes with a double ended brush, one thats a slanted eyeliner brush and the other is a fluffy crease style brush. Both are tiny! The eyeliner brush is alright, and would definitely work for those that don't have anything else to use. The eyeshadow brush however is a bit naff and not really worth using. I'm quite impressed with the brushes just because they're not sponge applicators!

I created two looks with the palette that I've got pictures of below. I haven't used any other eyeshadows in the look but the liner on the bottom lashes is not from the palette, it is on the top though.

How pretty are those colours!!

The Good - Eyeshadow is pigmented and soft, pretty colours, cheap gel eyeliner, good value, lasts well, whole look from 1 palette.

The Not so Good - Overall I really like the palette but the gel eyeliners do tend to fade and are not waterproof.

Would I buy again? I sure would I think it's great value and the colours are stunning, a couple of the browns are really unique in my collection. I am considering the other palette just so I can have a blue gel liner....

Who is this best suited to? People on a budget, those that like natural looking eyes and those that don't mind touching their make-up up during the day.

Overall I am very pleased with this purchase, I think it's great value. Has anyone else picked anything up recently that has turned out to be a real stunner of a product? Hope your all well and enjoying the rare sun, H :)

May Favourites!

I couldn't remember if May had 30 days or 31, so I thought I'd just post my favourites on the 30th, I seem to have a thing about posting my monthly favourites when it's already changed to the next month. But I'm just weird like that. Each month I do a mini review of each product mentioned as well as swatches of all relevant items :) Anyway my favourites for this month are...

~ELF All Over Colour Stick in Pink Lemonade
~17 Mirror Shine Lipstick in Flirtini
~GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Metallic Brass
~ MeMeMe Illuminator in Sunbeam
~ Accessorize Hot Smudge Set in Back Stage

Accessorize Hot Smudge Set - Backstage
These sets consist of an eyeshadow and cream eyeliner. I am planning a proper review of this at the moment so expect to see that in a week or so. For now I'll just go over the basics, the eyeliner is alright, pretty sheer but can be built up, I haven't used it as a coloured base for eyeshadows yet, but I plan on giving that a go so I can give a proper review later. The eyeliner on the other hand is absolutely gorgeous, soft, well pigmented and a really nice green. I would describe it as a deepened dark green with a hint of gold running through it. These are available from selected Superdrugs and Accessorize stores for £5.

GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner - Metallic Brass
This has become my go to eyeliner instead of Black as it looks less harsh on the eyes, whilst still being dark and defining the eye. I won't go to much into colour description as I have done a whole review on this eyeliner already which you can find here. They do remind me of the Urban Decay 24/7 Liners, except I prefer this ones as it's cheaper (£4.99) and I find it lasts better on my eyes.

ELF All Over Colour Stick - Pink Lemonade
If you haven't tried out ELF they really are something worth investigating as they're cheap and a lot of their products are actually very good quality for the price. Although I'm not a fan of their eyeshadows. When I originally got this product I wasn't really a fan but this month I gave it another chance and I've actually become quite fond of it, it's a reddish pink and can be used anywhere on the face, personally I like it for a blush where it has amazing staying power, especially if set with a similar coloured powder blush. This was definitely £1.50 well spent.

17 Mirror Shine Lipstick - Flirtini
These lipsticks are fairly famous in the blogging world, especially the Beehive shade, which I really like but Flirtini comes in first for me, it is fairly sheer so gives a lovely sheen of pink to the lips. It does look very scary in the tube, but if you give it a chance it can really shine. Also I really like the formulation of these lipsticks - its really smooth and feels nice on the lips. The finish is particularly shiny so would suit those more keen on lipglosses. Overall they're great lipsticks, definitely worth a look at when your next in Boots.

MeMeMe Illuminator in Sunbeam
MeMeMe have two liquid illuminators, the one I'm talking about today is the golden based one, but the pink one is also really nice too. I can't say much for the applicator it comes with. I've taken to applying with the attached applicator to the back of my hand and then using my fingers to apply to my face. It blends really well on the top of your cheeks and gives a really subtle sheen, thats really natural and beautiful, this is something else I plan on getting a review up for soon as they really need to be showcased for all there glory!

L-R: Accessorize Hot Smudge Eyeshadow, Eyeliner, 17 Flirtini Lipstick, MeMeMe Sunbeam Illuminator, ELF All Over Colour Stick - Pink Lemonade, GOSH Metallic Brass Eyeliner.

I'm pretty glad May is pretty much over for me, it wasn't a great month, as you may have noticed by my lack of blogging. But June is a new month and I've got some exciting things planned, festivals and moving! So bring on the new month, I hope you guys all had a better May than me and continue to enjoy June, Thanks for reading, H :)

Too Faced Look of Love Review and Swatches

Hello my lovelies, I hope your all having a lovely bank holiday weekend, today I've got a review of the Too Faced Look of Love collection. It retails for £32.00 and is available online from Boots and ASOS. I think this kit is most suited to people like me who haven't delved into Too Faced yet as it offers a range of products to try out and enjoy. Reviews for everything included is in this post, included in the kit is...

  • A Cute Make-up Bag
  • Glamour Gloss with Lip Injection in Barely Legal (Full Size - 3.6ml)
  • Lash Injection (Full Size - 13.5ml)
  • Shadow Insurance Eye Primer (Full Size - 11g)
  • Primed and Poreless Face Primer (5g)
  • Flatbuki Brush
  • Trio Compact (7.9g) with Silk Teddy, Totally Toasted Eyeshadows and La Vie en Rose Blush

L-R: Silk Teddy, Totally Toasted, La Vie en Rose, Barely Legal, Shadow Insurance, Primed and Poreless

For photographs of these products used on the face scroll on down to the bottom.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
This is a little thicker in consistency than Urban Decays Primer Potion, but for me I find both work well at making my eyeshadow lasting all day. It does have some colour to it when swatched but this blends out when used. Only a small amount is needed to get the desired affect, meaning this little tubes gonna be lasting me a long time! I'm unsure if I'd buy this again, I can't decide which of the two primers mentioned I prefer, especially seeing as Urban Decay have got their act together and introduced new packaging. The RRP for this is £16.50.

Primed and Poreless: Skin Smoothing Face Primer
I can't say this is amazing, but it's perfectly fine and does it's job at prolonging my foundation wear. Again when swatched it has a colour to it but this doesn't show when smoothed into the face. Like most face primers this contains silica and applies smoothly to the face. However I feel I have to use more of this than my other face primers such as my 17 Photo Flawless Skin Primer which costs a fraction of the price. This does work at minimizing my pores, though they are still visible somewhat.. Cute packaging though!

Flatbuki Brush
To be honest this is pretty much like the head of a blush brush in Kabuki form, I hope that makes sense. It's pretty small, the whole thing fits in the palm of my small hands. For a size comparisson check out the photo at the beginning of the post. That aside it actually works really well for applying blush and blending it out. It's like my little star! However I'm not big on the look, it's a bit tacky and the the pink tips make it look dirty, I much prefer how the standard Flatbuki brush looks. But like they say - it's whats on the inside that counts. These brushes are made of 'cruelty free teddy bear hairs' which for me is a good thing.

Lash Injection Mascara
Although this mascara is good and I'll use it, I don't think it's anything special and probably won't repurchase. It does lengthen and also thicken the lashes somewhat and has a nice strong black colour. The wand is pretty large and of the bristley variety and makes application easy. The one thing I really don't like about this mascara is that it has a really horrible unsubtle scent to it, so if your someone that isn't keen on smells, give this a wiff before buying. The bottom line with this mascara is that it's not bad but I can get the same quality cheaper.... and without the smell!

Glamour Gloss in Barely Legal
I was skeptical about the colour of this lipgloss, but actually I really like it as it's not too pigmented whilst still showing some colour. This Gloss includes the Too Faced famous Lip Injection for 'volumising' your lips. I find it has some plumping effect and does make my lips feel tingly. I've included a lip swatch at the bottom of this post to show how it looks on the lips. The packaging is practical but girly - it's pink with a huge plastic crystal on the end. I'm not the biggest fan, but the gloss is good, so I'll not gonna moan! The average wear I get out of this is about 3 hours, which is somewhere around average. It smells of a sweet alcoholy cake that I really can't put my finger on, it's not obnoxious though or in your face. I would consider buying this Gloss again if there was a colour that really caught my eye.

Look of Love Trio Compact
For me this is probably the star of the set, especially the eye shadows. I find them very soft and similar to Urban Decay eyeshadows. The paler colour is Silk Teddy and is a warm toned champagne, which I find flattering even on my pale pale skin. The darker shade Totally Toasted isn't as good for me being a golden mid-toned brown. I like it in my crease but find that I need something to darken it up (I have only used these two eyeshadows in the photographs below though). Whilst the eyeshadows are both shimmery and well pigmented the blush is actually pretty sheer. To get the swatches above I had to go over it 3 times just to get the colour to show. However saying that once applied to the cheeks (using a fair amount!) it gives a lovely naturally flushed pink look to the cheeks. This Blush also has gold shimmer in it.

I think that is possibly the longest post I have ever written, so well done and thank you if you have stayed with me through it, I might go for something a little shorter tomorrow. I have to say this kit didn't live up to all I thought it could be but there were some gems - the eyeshadows and flatbuki especially.

Thanks for reading my post, I hope you found it interesting/helpful, but I you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, Thanks again, H :)

Lip Favourites: My current favourite combination

Up until recently I was much more of a tinted lip balm girl. But now I'm getting much more into my lipglosses and lipsticks and experimenting more with lip combos. The one I have to show you here today is a fairly everyday wearable look. I started of with Sleeks sheen lipstick in Liqueur (review to come soon) and topped it of with Collection 2000's Lock and Hold Lipstick in Beatbox 2 (review here). The Sleek lipsticks come in two different finishes - Sheen and Matte, apart from the obvious differences in finishes they are both impressively pigmented as far as I have experienced so far.

L-R: Liqueur, Beat Box 2, Both

Sorry for the very short post today, the housework is beckoning me, I promise a better post for you tomorrow. Thanks very much for reading my post, I really appreciate all my readers, without them I'd be rambling onto myself, you make me feel sane! H :)

What's your favourite lip combo?

Project 10 Pan: 5-10 AKA I did it!

I must say I was rather tempted just to call this post 'I've finished!!' Over my extended absence I got powering through the using up, I still have a few things on their last legs so I'm thinking of turning this in to Project X Pan and updating when finishing items, although It'll probably more of a focus on make-up items unless people want to see other beauty related items on here?

My Final P10P List!
1.  The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter
2.   Les Copines Fard a Paupieres 102
3.   Lush RubRubRub Shower Scrub
4.   Sandstone Eyeshadow (Sleek Paraguaya Palette)
5.   Barry M Intense Black Mascara 3 in 1
6.   No7 Eyeshadow in Comet
7.   The Body Shop Brazil Nut Lip Butter
8.   Lush Buche de Noel Face Wash
9.   Lush Noubar Soap
10. Urban Decay Sin Eyeshadow

5.   Barry M Intense Black Mascara 3 in 1
I quite liked this, it made a good everyday mascara but wasn't anything special, towards the end of it's life I liked to use it before applying falsies to get a subtle application.

6.   No7 Eyeshadow in Comet
Loved eyeshadow, didn't love it's glitter fallout though. Think Midnight Cowboy Rides again. The colour was a pretty standard grey and could be darkened to create a one eyeshadow look. Very handy for quick mornings. I won't be buying another one though as my Accessorize Merged Eyeshadow in Gunmetals pretty similar, but more shimmery.

7.   The Body Shop Brazil Nut Lip Butter
I have a bit of a thing for this scent line, it smells like caramely sweetness to me. This Lip Butter had a lovely shiny finish to it almost as if I was wearing a clear lip gloss. But not sticky at all. Needless to say another one of these lip butters will work it's way back into my stash in due time - but maybe the Coconut one next time...

8.   Lush Buche de Noel Face Wash
This was limited edition last christmas and smelt like Marzipan, need I say more?! Good smelling, natural and makes my skin silky soft. Bring it back next christmas please Lush! One thing to mention with the Lush Face Wash's is to make sure you keep them bone dry in the tub, not wet fingers and screw the lid on tight :)

9.   Lush Noubar Soap
Wasn't that a big a fan of this it just smelt a bit weird and was kinda drying? Ah well It's gone now.

10. Urban Decay Sin Eyeshadow
Another one of my favourite eyeshadows. A pinkened champagne is probably how I'd describe it, a universally flattering natural go to shade. Luckily I have another in my naked palette to keep me going on this one. Swatches etc can be found here.

Seems like a bit of an end to the using it up now I have no goal, I think I'm just gonna keep going with the using it up and just enjoying what I have and try a create some funky looks for all my lovely readers. I hope you all have an awesome bank holiday weekend for my UK readers and a good weekend to everyone else. Post to you all soon, H :)

GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner Review/ Swatches

I've read quite a few good reviews on this eyeliner in blogland recently so I decided it was about time I picked one up, I went with Metallic Brass. Its a toned down black with gold/brass microglitter running through it. On the eye it pretty much looks like a more subtle black, its very hard to describe so I'll let the pictures do the talking.

In the UK you can get these from Superdrug where they cost £4.99 so pretty reasonable for an eyeliner. It actually reminds me a lot of the No7 Metallic Eyes Pencil. However the GOSH pencil is possibly of slightly less quality in my opinion, it is described as being waterproof - great! But I actually found that this ended up down my face when my eyes were watering. To be fair to my eyeliner it was onion eye watering so pretty excessive eyewatering! Saying that it really doesn't seem to smudge through an average day and glides on pretty easily.

L-R: Miss Sporty Black, GOSH Metallic Brass, No7 Smoky Gold

I wanted to show you a comparisson with a black eyeliner -Miss Sporty Eye Pencil in Magic (I don't rate this much by the way - it smudges like no other!) to show how it works. I also threw in a comparison with No7 Metallic Eyes Pencil in Smoky Gold which isn't completely different either. The GOSH Liner is as if these two had a baby.

Velvet Touch Eyeliner (Metallic Brass)
The Good - Good staying power, lovely shade for natural eye looks, soft and easy application, cheap, value, doesn't smudge on a normal day.

The Not so Good - I would have liked it to be more waterproof considering it's advertised as such.

Would I buy it again? Definitely, this has become a go to eyeliner and I'll definitely be having a look else at what other colours they have on offer when I'm next in Superdrug.

Sorry for being gone for so long but I'm back now, and to stay! Thanks for reading my post and I hope you return for more in future, H :)

It seems like forever since I've posted...

And it probably is! This is just a quick post to say that I am still here and I haven't given up on blogging. Without sounding like I'm making excuses my life is unbelievably hectic at the moment, what with working full time and studying for my uni exams I just haven't had the time. I've got lots of reviews and some looks planned out in my head for you and I'll be resuming blogging at the end of next week. But heres a sneek peak of whats coming up...

I really wish I could be blogging, I genuinely miss doing it. I have been keeping upto date with the make-up world and whats coming out - Sleek Mediterranean and 17 Miami Pop collections are really catching my eye at the moment, I'll definitely be getting them when they're out :)

Anyway back to studying for me, good luck to anybody out there who's taking exams as well, good luck and don't worry, you'll do fine! H :)

Project 10 Pan: No.4 - Sandstone Eyeshadow (Sleek Paraguaya Palette)

It seems like only a few weeks ago that I brought this palette... and it probably was. But one of the colours - Sandstone has become a firm favourite of mine, as you can tell from the picture below. I have already hit pan on it. I use it pretty much everyday as a matte highlight under my brows and on days when I want really subtle eye make-up all over my lid.

I reallly need to find a dupe for this, something that is not pointlessly sheer and not worth having. So if anybody knows of any dupes for this please please tell me, but in the mean time I might try saving it a little seeing as it's limited edition...

Wow my palette shows up really dirty on camera, may give it a clean haha. I think I'm doing well with using things up/ hitting pan. But I have an admission to make, I may or may not have brought 2 lipsticks and an eyeliner yesterday. But all is not lost, they are amazing! I think I have found a new favourite eyeliner, but more on that in a few days, so stay tuned! Thanks for reading my blog, I actually feel like I've let you guys down a bit by failing on my P10P, I obviously fail at self retraint.... I will DEFINITELY not be buying anything till the end now! H :)

Birds of Colour: Mallard Inspired Look

This is probably one of the strangest posts popping up in your feed at the moment! But yes I have created a look inspired by the seen-everywhere mallard duck for my birds series. The main inspiration I took was from the green head they have, if you live somewhere that this bird is common you'll know what I mean, it's a stunning shade of green, if only I could have found an eyeshadow that truely reflects it's beautifullness :)

And just to make this post more interesting heres a picture of some ducks I took a few weeks ago.

Project 10 Pan: No.3 Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub

I'd had this little bottle of goodness sitting in my shower for a while now. If your a lush fan you'll know that these scrubs come in black tubs now instead of the empty plastic bottle that I have here. The tubs look a lot better as the product being so thick and full of salt made it a mission to get out of the bottle. Also as a bonus if you take 5 clean empty black tubs back in store for recycling you'll get a free fresh face mask.

I did quite like using this scrub, it was mainly used on my legs after shaving, but if you've nicked youself, I'd grab a different scrub - this stings like a b*tch due to the salt in it! I probably won't be buying this again as I prefer Lush's You Snap the Whip and Gumback Express (Retro) for scrubs as I find they work better - and smell better. This smelt alright - a slightly fresh floral, Mimosa to be precise, like the Sakura bath bomb they do.

3 products down, 7 to go... well actually 5 I have 2 other things I need to get up here that I've been taking my time to post about. But please forgive me I'm a very busy bee at the moment!

If anybody else is currently doing Project 10 Pan I'd love to hear how your getting on with it and how your restraining yourself from buying! I'm finding it tricky to say the least. Thank you for reading and I hope you all have a good evening, H :)

Accessorize Lip Gloss - Celebrity Review and Swatches

I've been reviewing a lot of items from the relatively new brand Accessorize recently. But this has probably been the one that has excited me the least. But generally as a brand I have really liked trying out their products and enjoy having a look around their stand when I pop into Superdrug. I only have one of their lipglosses which is called Celebrity.

This cost me £3 from Superdrug but is also available from Accessorize online and some of their stores.

The lip gloss comes in a squeezy tube looking a darker natural coral. However it comes out slightly lighter than the tube would suggest. The tube itself has animal print and flowers on it like their Volumising Mascara does (which I reviewed a few weeks ago).

The applicator is a standard plastic one you get with this type of lip glosses. The hole in the tube is pretty small allowing just the right amount of product to come out and is shaped in a way that works well in application onto my lips - although everyones lips are shaped differently so this might not be the same for you.

When swatched straight from the tube you can see the colour in the product, however when blended out as you would on your lips this is very sheer and only really leaves a gloss to the lips. This is a pretty natural shade though so I'd be interested to see how some of the other colours they do turn out. Such as VIP and Pout which are Purple and Pink.

I found that this gloss was at it's best for around 2 hours, but didn't properly disappear until I'd had it on around 4 hours. So not too bad considering it's not advertised as a long wear lip gloss or anything.

One thing thats really noticeble about this lip gloss is the strong smell of sweet toasted vanilla/coconut it has. Not everyones cup of tea but I quite like it. It's pretty strong - you can smell it through the tube, but suprisingly I can't really smell it when it's on and it tastes of nothing - yes I did lick my lips and see!

Bare Lips

With Celebrity Lipgloss
The Good - Not sticky, cheap, lasts 2 hours, easy application, shiny!

The Not so Good - pretty average, sheer colour, some people might not like the strong scent.

Would I buy it again? I'm undecided, for me it's just alright, but at the same time I quite like the look of their purple one, VIP as it might be wearable with the sheerness. But then again Collection 2000 Lock N Hold lasts longer... We shall see!

I'm sure if I do decide to purchase anymore of these lip glosses they'll be making an appearance here.Thankyou for reading my blog post, I really appreciate you stopping by here, I hope you fond what you were looking for, H :)
