Until recently it was rather tricky to find a gel eyeliner on the highstreet, but things seem to be changing for the better with more and more brands steadily coming out with them. The most recent one I've come across is the Falsifeye Gel Eyeliner from 17 - this isn't sold individually, but came free with the Falsifeye Mascara (review here). I'm not sure if the offer is still going on though as I didn't see it when I visited Boots recently.
As always I have included a summary at the bottom.
The Basics
As far as I know these aren't sold separately and where only sold as a free gift with the Falsifeye mascara. I'm not sure if they're still available as they now have a free palette when you buy two products, which I'll be picking up when I get to Boots. But back to the gel eyeliner this has 2.8g of product in a screw top plastic jar. There is a brush included which is great for beginners to try. But personally I find it a bit useless as it is so small! The finish is black and slightly glossy, but not as pigmented as I'd like.
The Texture
Some gel liners I've tried are softer than others, others are thicker and not so smooth. This one, I like. Upto a point anyway, it's not the softest meaning I do have to brush my brush in the pot a few times to get some product. But after that it applies really smoothly, although not as evenly as I'd like, but that's down to the pigmentation.... and me being a little picky!
Colour and Pigmenation
This is a black gel liner, the colour is not the strongest black I've seen, but still good. As for the pigmentation, I do find that I need to go over my line again to get the intensity that I want, but I don't really find it that much of a problem. To compare it to the Sleek Ink Pot Eyeliner Gel - the Sleek one is a stronger black and matter.
Sorry about the awful application, I wanted to get a slightly thicker than normal coat to show the colour, finish etc. Here I also have on the Falsifeye Mascara.
Longevity
This isn't the best lasting of the Gel Liners I have, mainly because at the slight sign of watering eyes, I have massive black streaks down my face - not a look I'm keen on! So to avoid this I've only been wearing it on my top lashline. Here I find that it does stay all day, but there is a slight fading by the evening. It is also slightly prone to smudging when touched, so I'd suggest not rubbing you eyes at all with this on!
The Good - was free with Falsifeye mascara (not sure if it still is), applied smoothly, not a nightmare to remove, theres a seal on the lid to help slow drying out, having a brush is good for those not as make-up obsessed as us bloggers!
The Not so Good - black isn't as intense as other gel liners I have (eg Sleek), some may not like the slight glossy finish, runs all down my cheeks with watering eyes, the brush is a little useless for those with lots of brushes.
Would I buy this again? I'm not sure I could even if I wanted to, but luckily I wouldn't buy this again as I prefer the Sleek Inkpot and although I haven't tried ELF's Black I prefer the formula of their other coloured Gel Liners to the 17 one.
I won't be going into who this would be suited to as I'm not sure on the availability of it. Overall I will use it, wouldn't buy another and wouldn't suggest it for anyone thats tried and liked other brands. Good try 17, but for me you haven't quite got it, the mascara however is amazing!
Thanks for reading my post, sorry if it was a bit negative I just wanted to give my honest thoughts of the product. If you have any further questions feel free to ask, Thanks again, H :)
